A Structured Methodology

Focus Engineering engineers certainty and confidence by applying a structured methodology to every project.


This methodology governs how work is reviewed, aligned, refined, and delivered. It ensures that technical requirements are clearly defined, scope is controlled, and execution is carried out with precision.


Every project progresses through four phases:


Evaluate – Validate – Optimise – Execute


EVALUATE

We ensure all technical specifications are complete, accurate, and suitable for manufacture.

The Evaluate phase ensures all technical and functional inputs are confirmed before any pricing is issued. We analyse client-supplied drawings and models to verify dimensions, tolerances, material grades, surface treatments, and critical assembly details. Where inputs are incomplete or ambiguous, we raise specific technical queries to eliminate risk. No assumptions are made—every detail is clarified.

We also assess whether the project fits within our in-house capabilities, including fabrication limits, machining capacity, and handling constraints. Part geometry is reviewed against machine envelopes, setup times are considered, and potential production bottlenecks are identified. This structured evaluation process defines a clear, buildable scope—allowing for accurate pricing, controlled execution, and reliable delivery outcomes.

We lock in scope and align stakeholder expectations.

Following evaluation, we move into a formal validation phase. This ensures all technical and functional requirements are understood, agreed upon, and documented. We conduct a structured confirmation process to align deliverables, address remaining queries, and confirm the scope with the client.

The validated scope is formalised in an Offer Document. This document defines what is included, what is excluded, and what governs delivery. Once accepted, the scope is locked. 

This prevents scope creep, protects against misinterpretation, and ensures internal teams are working from the same controlled inputs throughout fabrication, machining, and assembly.

optimise

We solve your problems before they become problems.

Before execution begins, we assess the inputs for performance, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency. This includes reviewing materials, tolerances, and production methods to ensure the scope is optimised without compromising functional outcomes.

Where appropriate, we propose refinements—such as alternate materials with better availability, adjustments to tolerancing for machining efficiency, or simplified fabrication steps. All recommendations are technically justified and aligned with operational requirements. The result is a refined, production-ready scope with reduced risk and improved efficiency.

execute

We align your engineering intent to deliver with control, precision and accountability.

Once the scope is validated and optimised, we proceed into controlled execution. Planning is based on confirmed requirements, and procurement follows validated specifications. Materials are checked for compliance before they enter production.

Fabrication, machining, and assembly are carried out in-house under disciplined process control. Each stage is inspected to verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with technical requirements. Final deliverables are reviewed against the defined scope, and where required, Factory Acceptance Testing is conducted prior to dispatch. The outcome is predictable, precise, and fully compliant with the agreed specification.
